Hi Saucettes,
Rosa-Lee again! This time, I am writing to you live from Dublin, Ireland, jammed in a tour van with my one-year-old niece, my sister, Nadia Reid, and her band. Life on the road is a series of changes—visceral and emotional. Each day is a new place to operate, a new state of mind. But with change soon comes rhythm. The cyclical nature of life is that everything changes only to blossom and begin again.
Change occurs in many manifestations: change in our minds, change in our bodies, and change in our surroundings. It can be discombobulating at the best of times. My remedy for headpins? Returning to the altar of the body—sitting still, letting time stretch out in front of me. Coming back into our bodies means aligning with our senses—watching, reading, listening ,observing, absorbing, and dreaming.
“You had to feel the swell change. You had to go with the change.”
– Joan Didion

READING
On the topic of Anora, Anora’s American Dream by the writer Rayne Fisher Cayne is a poignant and gripping critical review of the film. The essay explores nationalist fairytales, hetero-optimism, trad wives, and Anora as final girl. The writer dives deep into the contorted American view of what defines a “Cinderella story” as well as the nuanced portrayal of sex workers in movies. I personally loved everything about Anora, but I loved everything this essay brought up just as much, if not more.

OBSERVING
Paris Fashion Week 2025 brought a smorgasbord of streetwear edge and silky billowing sleeves. I adored the creative direction for Chloé. The collection was permeated with a romantic image of boho British aristocrats in drafty stately homes: think faux fur coats thrown over silk nighties styled with trinket necklaces.
In a significant development within the fashion industry, Gucci has appointed Georgian designer Demna as its new artistic director. Demna, known for introducing streetwear to luxury fashion during his tenure at Balenciaga, is the first non-Italian to hold this position since Tom Ford's departure in 2004. His appointment aims to revitalise Gucci amidst declining sales, which saw a 24% drop in the fourth quarter of 2024. Let’s see what he can rejuvenate into the brand.
ABSORBING
Recently, Dazed Digital spotlighted New Zealand photographer Zephyr Thomas (now London-based, as you’ll read in the piece), a special moment for our creative community. In her photo series Tāmaki Makaurau Rising, she brings together portraits of people in New Zealand’s Indigenous and anti-capitalist creative scene. You’ll probably spot someone you know in this piece!
DREAMING
In 2025, I have been making the effort to shop as consciously as possible. For me, this means shopping organic fibres and focusing on items with longevity. Currently, my wishlist is buttery and block coloured.
And if you haven't already, make sure you read our latest doses of Sauce Sundays. Mini trend report, February Horoscope + how to find your community, and embracing all things tangible.
See you all next time <3
